Holiday Events 2018

We had such a fantastic response to our Summer Calendar that we figured we would put together a Holiday one too!

On the Event poster you will find as many events as we could find – we even put a call out to you to make sure we didn’t miss a thing – to take you through the 2018 holiday season in and around Campbell River!

Because there was just SO much going on in this great city we call home, we had to keep the information as simple as possible and we still have 3 pages! You will see what the event is, the date and time it’s happening and a link for you to punch into your device of choice to find all the little details.

We hope you find this helpful and fun to print off and have in your home! Leave us a comment so we can find out if this is something you’d like us to continue or if there is anything different you’d like to see.

See you all out there!

Deanna’s 10 Days of Giveaways ~ DAY 6 Holly Hill Farm

On the 6th Day my favorite farmers over at Holly Hill Farm are gifting one of you lucky followers a family barnyard tour complete with horse rides (for the Spring of 2016).

Holly Hill Farm is an authentic family farm ran by Katie and Kyle Denne. It is located in the heart of Campbell River, on Canada’s beautiful Vancouver Island. The farm is home to a diverse range of animals and 16 acres of stretching farmland.

In just a few short years they have grown this property into a multifaceted farm, offering  guests educational farm tours and horseback rides. Birthday parties, fields trips and summer kids camps too!  Campbell River is fortunate to have Holly Hill Farm also supplying the community with healthy free-range meats, eggs, and fibre raised ethically and naturally.

I have had the pleasure of visiting for a few birthdays and this year’s Easter Event with my daughter who by the way speaks about Katie at least once a week.  She truly thinks Katie is the coolest farmer out there and wants to have a farm just like her one day!  Katie really is a natural when it comes to showing the kids around and teaching them about the farm.  I look forward to watching this farm grow and the community benefit from it. More details about all they offer here http://hollyhillfarmcampbellriver.com/

Do you have an outdoor enthusiast to find a gift for this year? If you want a great selection of gear for fishing, hunting, camping and everything in between, Tyee Marine is the place to go. The staff is always incredibly helpful, especially if you walk in with the name of an item and no earthly idea what it looks like or what it does. This store is jam-packed with great stuff. There are lots of books and different ideas like these custom home address signs.

Deanna and Sam’s Favourite Things…Day 4!

We’re already at DAY 4!! It’s been so much fun sharing with all of you and hearing about some of your favourite traditions and treats for the holidays.

Today, Deanna is sharing her Favourite DIY Christmas ornament that is kid friendly and easy even if you are not exactly “crafty” (I’m of course talking about myself).

Cinnamon Ornaments

my angel cinnamon cookie

This time of year all my daughter wants to do is bake, bake, bake. I love baking too, but I don’t like feeding her sugar every day (and Mommy has trouble not eating all the goodies up until she feels sick) so this was a refreshing recipe to find.

This recipe is a great way for your little people to get involved too! The kids get to roll the dough, cut the ornaments into their favourite Christmas themed shapes, bake and then decorate. And as an added bonus your home will smell amazing!

I picked up some bags of glitter from the dollar store and I even got into it myself and made this pretty little angel!

You can try out this recipe for Cinnamon Ornaments here:

What are your favourite DIY Christmas crafts? We’d love to share them, so let us in on your crafty ways.

We love making this Monkey Bread or Cinnamon Breakfast Cake (as we like to call it). The house smells amazing as it bakes away and it’s a cinch to make.

Ingredients:

  • 20 Frozen Bread Balls
  • 1 Cup Brown Sugar
  • 1/4 Cup Vanilla Pudding Mix
  • 1-2 Tbsp of Cinnamon
  • 1/2 Cup Melted Butter

Directions:

Mix dry ingredients in a bowl. Place the bread balls in a Bundt cake pan. Sprinkle the dry mixture over top. Then pour the melted butter on top. Cover with a cloth and let it sit over night. In the morning, place in the oven and bake at 350 for 20-25 minutes. Try to let it cool slightly before demolishing.

Deanna and Sam’s Favourite Things…Holiday Edition!

Welcome to Our Little 5 Part Series regarding our Favourite Things!

Over the next couple of days we’ll be sharing our Favourite Ideas, Tips and Tricks for the Holiday Season.

Today’s post is all about Decorating for Christmas!

decorating blog pilllows

This time of year I love decorating the house. I am a throw pillow addict. One closet is already dedicated to throw pillows, and since Target has moved to town it’s officially full! Target is a GREAT place to buy a couple of festive pillows. I personally love the golds and silvers. Maybe I might pick up a bright turquoise or classic red. Or you can add a throw blanket in a festive colour or pattern to introduce a bit of Christmas magic to your room.

white pine decorating

You don’t have to wait until Christmas Eve to snappy up your table. I like to bring the outdoors in (no need for Febreeze). I prefer white pine myself, but snipping a few pine, fir and cedar bows and arranging them on your mantle or just a bit in a vase is easy and smells delicious. I even pop fir bows into my outside planters since they’re empty of all their summer flowers.

DSC_0239

My all time favourite decorating technique is simply using Christmas balls. I fill huge glass vases, dishes and even old wooden crates .Then I put them all over the entry, the bathroom (all over the house really). You can keep it all solid colours or you can mix them up.

Happy Decorating!
