We are so very excited to announce that Campbell River will be put in the spot light once again with the 3rd Annual Royal LePage Advance Realty Salmon Derby. Plans are now underway for the Salmon Derby scheduled for Saturday, June 9!

Royal LePage Advance Realty is all about giving back to the community. This event raised over $90,000 total in the past 2 years  for local charities! ALL funds raised will be donated to two great local causes once again: The Royal LePage Shelter Foundation that will benefit the Campbell River and North Island Transition Society (Rose Harbour and Ann Elmore house) supporting local women and children in need and the Campbell River Salmon Foundation, supporting local rehabilitation and enhancement of local salmon habitat.

Last year we gave away over $20,000 in cash and prizes. stay tuned for the 2018 prize list as well as more details here, on our facebook page and the official event page.

Deanna’s Client Appreciation Day!

On May 30, 2015 we had the pleasure of hosting an event at the Discovery Passage Aquarium. Deanna’s Client Appreciation Day was an afternoon to thank Deanna’s current and repeat clients as well as those who have been kind enough to refer Deanna to friends and family.

The afternoon was held both inside and outside of the aquarium and the weather was just perfect. We invited families to come and explore the aquarium and then enjoy some games and arts and crafts. Have you been to our local aquarium yet? It’s a great place to spend some time exploring the marine life on our coast. And for the little ones, there is a large touch tank, where the kids can get a real “hands on” education!

Deb Cowper and her team at Discovery Passage Aquarium were beyond amazing when it came to treating Deanna’s clients to a fun day! They provided fabulous prizes and awesome interactive games and arts and crafts. We would highly recommend working with them to host an event again!

Here is a snapshot of the day:

Deanna and Sam’s Favourite Things…Day 4!

We’re already at DAY 4!! It’s been so much fun sharing with all of you and hearing about some of your favourite traditions and treats for the holidays.

Today, Deanna is sharing her Favourite DIY Christmas ornament that is kid friendly and easy even if you are not exactly “crafty” (I’m of course talking about myself).

Cinnamon Ornaments

my angel cinnamon cookie

This time of year all my daughter wants to do is bake, bake, bake. I love baking too, but I don’t like feeding her sugar every day (and Mommy has trouble not eating all the goodies up until she feels sick) so this was a refreshing recipe to find.

This recipe is a great way for your little people to get involved too! The kids get to roll the dough, cut the ornaments into their favourite Christmas themed shapes, bake and then decorate. And as an added bonus your home will smell amazing!

I picked up some bags of glitter from the dollar store and I even got into it myself and made this pretty little angel!

You can try out this recipe for Cinnamon Ornaments here:

What are your favourite DIY Christmas crafts? We’d love to share them, so let us in on your crafty ways.

If you could take a moment to like, share or comment on our Facebook post and/or on this actual blog post that would be swell!! As a thank you we are going to pull a random winner at the end of our favorites week to win this basket of our favorite things including a wreath!

Let us Introduce you to… Whimsy Woolies!

It’s that time again for Local Feature Tuesdays! We’re so excited to bring some well deserved attention to these fabulous Campbell River and Area businesses and events.
This week we are showcasing Whimsy Woolies, a great mother-daughter business. I have had the pleasure of being personally tutored by Mimi herself and have been grateful to receive a couple of the adorable hats from her patterns for my boys. Here is a little bit more about these lovely ladies and their business below.
Mimi Wilson & Kate Denne, mother and daughter team, are the creators of “Whimsy Woolies”; a crochet pattern design business.
To follow the business please visit their Facebook page:
To view their online stores, visit: or
“Myself being the artisan and Kate the queen of computer savvy, allowed my dream to become a reality in this high tech world. Inspired at a very young age by my protegee, Mimi Foort, who was an amazingly talented and spirited Lebanese woman. She lived on Quadra Island, across Discovery Passage from my home. I am reminded of the kerosene lantern, the spinning of the wheel and the smell of fleece. Mimi taught me to knit, crochet and spin. I was 19 when I opened my yarn shop, taught others my crafts, and had a design company for a number of years. This was prior to the web, when it was a great effort to market your talent. I was fortunate enough to sell my designs both in Victoria and Vancouver, but burnout hit and I lost my creative spark for a number of years. Then along came my sweet grandchildren, who have re-ignited my flame. I read a quote that lit a spark, by George Elliot, “It’s never to late to be what you might have been”. I want to leave a legacy, my patterns, a book, something to hold in your hands, a craft that I hope will ignite your creativity. I want everyone to be able to create and enjoy my Whimsy Woolies as much as I have in their creation.I am so fortunate to collaborate with Nycky-jay Vanjecek, the talented artist behind Bluetree Photography. She is amazing, how she captures my precious models personalities and indulges visual touch to my ‘Whimsy Woolies’, releasing the essence of each design.

DIY Chalk Paint Furniture Make Over

photo 1
This old chaise lounge has sat rotting on my back deck for 2 years so I decided to give it a make over. I love chalk paint because it fits my painting style perfectly. NO prepping, quick drying, no rules, and very forgiving to work with! I bought a few colors at Red Living in Courtenay. I know that the cans are fairly pricey but a little goes a long way here! You can use this paint both indoors and out. Below I have provided the step-by-step instructions of this great DIY project.
Step #1- Prep! A quick hose and wipe of the major cobwebs and dirt. That’s about all the prepping I can
handle. I HATE prep work!
photo 2
Step #2- I watered down the paint a bit to give it more of a beachy, distressed washed look. This paint is non toxic and so easy to work with that my 5 year old helps me with projects!
photo 2-2
The paint drys within minutes and you are done!
photo 3
In this case I rubbed on Annie Sloan Dark Wax to give it a darker finish that would complement the surrounding outdoors.

And in LESS THAN AN HOUR, the cushions are on an the chaise is ready to enjoy!

Let Us Introduce You To…Holly Hill Farm!

It’s Tuesday Folks and that can only mean one thing…It’s Local Feature Tuesdays!

We are so pleased to feature Holly Hill Farm as our local business this week. It is a beautiful and ever expanding family run farm and absolutely worth a visit. Here is a little bit more about the farm from owner/operator Katie Denne.

cover pic 2014

Holly Hill Farm is an up and coming farm owned by Katie and Kyle Denne. They bought the farm from Katie’s grandparents who were long residence of Campbell River: Mary & Danny McKenzie. The farm currently runs a weekly egg program that delivers fresh, free-range, eggs to 10 families. They also sell eggs at their farm gate when there is a surplus. The farm is a 16 acre parcel that has hopes of supplying Campbell River with fresh, local meats, fruits & veggies raised & grown in a healthy, happy way.

The farm is also a wonderful place to hold a child’s birthday party where the kids are able to visit with the alpacas, chickens, mini donkeys, and Snickers, who is pictured in the photo.

The farm has hosted many families as a photoshoot location, and recently hosted a bride & groom on their special day.
